The Stanford Alpine Club promotes the safe enjoyment of alpinism (rock climbing, ice climbing, mountaineering, ski mountaineering, etc.) in the Stanford Community. The Stanford Alpine Club (SAC) has a strong history of alpine excellence at Stanford University and beyond. SAC was founded in 1946. The modern SAC perpetuates the original spirit of alpinism by providing a forum for planning excursions, and by introducing new members to the safe and responsible enjoyment of mountaineering, rock climbing, ice climbing, ski mountaineering, and other alpine pursuits.
A very nice book on the history of SAC was published in 2000, The Stanford Alpine Club, by John Rawlings, with Glen Denny as the photography editor. You can find it in the SAC library or in Stanford Libraries.
From May 13 to August 15, 2000, the Stanford Libraries featured an exhibit about the Stanford Alpine Club. The exhibit is preserved digitally here.
