Featuring an article by former SAC President Chris Chan, written about how she had come to understand risk in climbing while soloing big walls in Tuolumne, this longer edition combines photo essays, artwork, and contemplations on the value of nature while remaining close to home. Featuring stories of resilience, awe, and adventure — from a 24-hour solo ascent of the Nose to reflections on injury, wildness, leadership, and loss — this edition brings together essays, photography, and artwork that celebrate the Stanford Alpine Club’s community and the landscapes that shape it.
2026 SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS: SUBMIT NOW UNTIL JANUARY 15, 2026 TO BE FEATURED IN OUR ANNUAL PRINT EDITION
The Alpine Journal is a comprehensive and inclusive collection of stories from all those in the Stanford community who enjoy and learn from the natural world around us. We want to see your photography, trip reports, feature length musings, artworks, poetry, environmental justice work, and more.
All pieces will be considered on a rolling basis. If you submit a pitch or completed piece by December 15, our editorial team will work with you to craft your submission to have the best possible chance of being selected for the journal. If you submit by January 15, your submission will be considered as-is.
