Jonathan Crabtree: Chamonix Climbing

Matthew James Matera's picture

This Tuesday evening at 7:00, we will be having Jonathan Crabtree share stories and pictures from his recent Chamonix climbing/skiing trip. The presentation will be in the Arrillaga Outdoor Education and Recreation Center on Santa Teresa street. I will also be sharing a few pictures from my Chamonix acents, including Mont Blanc. Here's what Jon has to say about his trip:

"In May 2014 I found my way back to Chamonix to play an all too familiar waiting game with the sun. Clearly, I had not learned from my previous two failed trips to visit this place during one of the fine high seasons. Instead, I arrived during my beloved "inter season" to discover that after a quick ski through the vallee blanche, I would once again be road tripping away from all of my intended objectives in search of climbable weather. After an entertaining 4 day rock star road trip through Italy and southern France's finest limestone crags, we received incredible news. A ray of sunshine was forecast to pass through Chamonix and the high mountains might let a couple of chumps on a schedule a quick taste of the legendary mixed rock and ice routes of the Mont-Blanc range. A whirlwind two country ski tour, a world class alpine ridge climb and an uber classic couloir ascent gave me (and what seemed like about 300 of my new closest friends) just what I came for and not a foot-hold more. This slide show will touch on highlights of the trip, logistics of climbing in France and reinforce my commitment to return in high season!"
See you there,
