Joshua Tree Bliss
November 18-26 (Thanksgiving break) (informal) Fall trip to Joshua Tree
Bag some classic climbs in the High Desert.
An informal trip means that the SAC does not check qualifications of
participants or provide instruction.
So, know your partner(s) and inspect/test the anchors!
In past years, to receive more information on this trip,
you should subscribe to a special email list.

- Jared Brown [jwbrown AT stanford.edu] will be coordinating this
trip (carpool logistics, making a roster to help with finding climbing
partners of similar abilities)
- Jared has reserved group campsites at Sheep Pass for
Nov. 19-22: Sunday-Monday nights (19-20) site #4, Tuesday-Wednesday
nights (21-22) sites #1 and #3. Look for Jared's blue Jeep Cherokee
with Colorado plates.
Sites for the last 3 nights can usually be arranged

- Chris Chan is organizing some instruction during the trip, so that
people can build their skills with help from some SAC instructors
- Sun - Beginning rock climbing, or Introduction to cracks
Set up topropes; if anyone doesn't know how to belay we can teach
them. How to make tape gloves, etc. Rappelling.
If you are a beginner climber and want to climb on topropes on other
days as well, we should be able to set up topropes on other days as well.
- Mon - Anchors
Get acquainted with gear; principles of anchors like SERENE etc.
Practice building anchors with passive gear
Climb on anchors built by students/instructors together
- Tue - Anchors
Build passive and active gear anchors
Have students build their own TRs and climb on them after
instructors have checked them.
- Wed - Leading (Sequel)
Because there are people who have basic knowledge of how to lead
(e.g. they've taken the Lead Workshop or know how to place gear and
build anchors, and done mock leads, but they haven't had very many
opportunities to lead climb with more experienced people), this would
be a chance for people to lead climb with instructors seconding and
offering suggestions about leading, setting anchors, etc. The
student-instructor ratio should be about 2:1, so this will probably
depend on instructor availability.
