Alpbaza Bezengi Kabardino Balkaria (The Russian Autonomous Region in the North Caucasus)

First part: A Yosemite wall in the 60's. Dave Calfee and I climbed the Leaning Tower in June 1967. This is a short set of pictures, not enough for a stand alone program. At that time it kept two guys pretty busy just getting up the route in 2 days.
Second part: climbing in the Bezengi Region of the Caucasus in 1975. This is the area where A. F. Mummery ( "Climbs in the Alps and Caucasus")went climbing in the 19th century. The main peak that we climbed was Koshtan Tau. We had a local group of four with overlapping affiliations SAC/RCS/AAC. It required a 6 months correspondence with the Russian Mountaineering Federation to make the arrangements. Once we arriver the Russian Climbers were wonderful hosts.
