Women's climbing weekend, May 19-20 The Stanford Alpine Club Women's Trad Climbing Backcountry Workshop May 19-20 The Stanford Alpine Club is excited to offer an all-women's weekend of rock climbing on May 19-20th! Finally you can leave behind the testosterone- and ratings-driven, trash-talking, egotistical dynamic found at sport crags and the boulders. Erika Monahan, Sharon Huock, and Chris Chan are looking forward to sharing the camaraderie, stories, and generally awesome fun vibe that comes from climbing with other girls. We hope to provide an opportunity for 6 to 8 women climbers to meet each other, start friendships or find partners for climbing and other outdoors activities. We want to climb in an atmosphere where women feel comfortable trying different things, talking about everything from being outdoors to dealing with risk, and sharing what we love about climbing and what we can accomplish on our own. Is climbing with all women really different from climbing with a bunch of guys? Well, we'll find out over the weekend, but either way we think it will be great fun! We're hoping to hold our climbing weekend at Lover's Leap in Tahoe. Sharon and Chris will stake out some sweet campsites on Friday, where we can hang out during the weekend after climbing. We're thinking some multipitch routes on Saturday and cragging on Sunday. Chris may even be around Monday and Tuesday to climb for anyone who can stick around longer. Although we encourage you to apply no matter your experience, we're especially interested in hearing from women who would like more experience or instruction leading trad and climbing cracks. [While this is first and foremost a weekend intended to get out and climb with other women, we will also devote some time to developing crack climbing technique and gear skills.] Fees are $35 for SAC members, $45 for non-SAC members.
