Subject: Anchors II - Gear anchors & Intro to multipitch following class

Dealine for applying is THIS SUNDAY the 6th!

Have you been setting topropes outside, and would like to learn more about
trad climbing?  Want to be able to comfortably follow more experienced
climbers up awesome beautiful multipitch climbs in Yosemite?  Want to know
the basics of building gear anchors?

If so, you should sign up for the Anchors II "Intro to multipitch following"
class!  This will be a great class to get you competent in following so that
when you go to Joshua Tree over Thanksgiving you'll be a good follower!

Depending on class experience, we'll cover:
Basics of trad gear (cams, nuts, etc.)
Building safe anchors using gear
Learning to evaluate other people's anchors
Lead belaying
Learning to clean gear while following, how to evaluate gear placements
Efficient following techniques for multipitch climbing

Application Deadline is THIS SUNDAY November 6th at midnight!
Class size is limited to 8-10 students.  If 10 or more people
apply by Friday night (Nov. 4, 5pm), we will select 10 people at random from
the applications, so please apply by then if you can (then people can
better plan for next weekend).
We have 4 instructors at present (myself, Niloy, John, and Sam).

The outdoor session will be on - November 12-13 (Saturday-Sunday) at some
beautiful location (Yosemite most likely, or Tollhouse if the weather
is questionable) where we can do some multipitch climbing.
The Classroom session will be on Thurs Nov 10 from 7-9pm location TBA.

The cost is $30 for Alpine Club members, $45 nonmembers.  Membership to
Alpine Club is $25 and gives you other benefits as well (see website
http://alpineclub.stanford.edu ).  Class fee does not cover gas, food, or
campsites.
